Job Hunting in the Economic Storm
A friend of mine in the recruitment industry was talking to me the other day about how hard people are working at the business of job hunting; registering with agencies, doing up their CVs and following up every lead and half lead they possibly can. read more»
Miriam and the Lot of the Working Mother
Just after nine this morning I nearly fell off the cross trainer laughing, listening to Miriam O Callaghan talk about the joys of being a working mother on RTE One with John Murray. On the night before she was facing into the leaders debate live on RTE - no pressure! – she hardly got a wink of sleep. Her insomniac little son was insisting on Thomas the Tank Engine in the later part of the evening and then, after finally getting to bed, she had to get up again at 2am to sort out the puppy poo on the stairs. read more»
Time to get over ourselves and accept Eurovision hopefuls, Jedward
On the Mooney Show today on Radio One there was more reaction to the Jedward appearance at Croke Park during the interval in the double header when Dublin took on football champions Cork and hurling champions Tipperary. The amount of people who are ‘very fluent’ in Irish is way up there, if you are to believe the official records, although listening to people around you on the street or in the work place would seem to suggest a different story. read more»
The Irish Film and Television Awards
The IFTAs last night were ultra stylish, as to be expected, the new Convention Centre in Dublin showing itself off to best advantage as the great and the good in the film and television world came to be awarded. The escalators that travel up the central atrium were a spectacular sight - a sea of sequins and colour as the glamourati finished the turn on the red carpet, and headed up to the main auditorium. read more»
What Happened the Bankers?
Leading UCD Economist Colm McCarthy is saying on RTÉ tonight that despite all the miles of newspaper columns and hours of air time given to the problem of the banks, and the intensive study he has made of the subject, he still doesn't fully understand what happened to the bankers. Well it is quite easy really, Colm, they became pimps. read more»
