The weekend’s Red C poll reported that Fine Gael, at 41%, is at an all time high in the polls. Enda Kenny has played a blinder since becoming Taoiseach. For years the national media berated him as a loser and frequently called him wooden. During the recent visits of the UK’s Queen and the US President just imagine you could turn the clock back. Who would you prefer to have there as Taoiseach, Brian Cowen or Enda Kenny? It is almost hard to imagine what it would have been like having Brian Cowen back there as Taoiseach for those two historic visits. Isn’t it amazing the way Enda Kenny has grown into the job.
Meanwhile the sheer class of our President Mary McAleese has raised the bar for all the presidential hopefuls. The electorate will now want candidates with the gravitas and grace of Mary. At this time she is undoubtedly the most highly regarded person in the country.
